SC36 develops International Standards in information technology in the areas of Learning, Education, and Training.  The Scope statement (Terms of Reference) provides the details of the area of work. For newcomers to the standards process, this web site includes a summary of acronyms and standards terminology.

SC36 is a subcommittee of JTC1 (see JTC1 Org Chart).  The National Bodies comprise the membership of SC36.  SC36 liaises with other organizations and is aware of related activities so that technical work is harmonized and participants' resources are used effectively.  SC36's  technical work is performed in Working Groups (WGs) and Rapporteur Groups (RGs) -- see SC36 Org Chart.  SC36 operates according to a Business Plan, which is approved annually by JTC1.

Participation in SC36 via meetings: SC36 holds plenary meetings twice a year in March and September.  WGs, RGs, etc., may meet independently of the SC36 plenary -- please consult the meeting schedule.  Previous meetings' resolutions and working papers are available.

Participation in SC36 via contributions: SC36 participants communicate formally with working papers (see SC36 "N" documents) and communicate informally with E-mail reflectors.
